According to reports in local media, Aeon Group's Beijing flagship store started trial operation on October 17, 2008, marking the formal entry of the Asian retail giant into Beijing's retail market.
Located in the Changping District of Beijing, the Aeon Beijing shopping mall is the first large-scale shopping mall that is build outside the city proper. With a business area of 91,600 square meters and 3,000 parking spaces, the new shopping mall is one of Beijing's largest shopping centers, and its outlets include a department store; a supermarket; specialty stores; and dining and entertainment venues.
Zhu Jing, director and deputy general manager of Beijing Aeon, said that the entry into the Beijing market is a strategic deployment of Aeon in the North China market and the company plans to increase the number of its stores in China to 100 by 2010.
