The global consumer goods manufacturer Procter & Gamble has announced that it will invest USD248 million to build a manufacturing base in Tianjin.
Zhang Qunxiang, the senior manager of P&G China's external affairs department, told local media that P&G plans to develop its investment project in Tianjin's Xiqing into its largest manufacturing base in Asia Pacific, and possibly the world, with an annual production capacity of 100 million cases.
So far, P&G has invested CNY198 million in the Xiqing project, which has about 800 employees and a factory area of 500,000 square meters, including the first-phase factory area of 8,831 square meters for the production of its Whisper products. With a total investment of CNY50 million, the second-phase project of 14,000 square meters now is under construction. On the completion of the plant expansion, the new manufacturing base will be able to accommodate 13 production lines.
