COFCO, the major shareholder of the Chinese dairy company Mengniu, has announced that Mengniu's manufacturing base in the southwestern area of China has been completed and put into production.
COFCO told local media that construction of Mengniu's first manufacturing base in the southwestern area and its 24th base in China, its Mengniu Meishan plant, started in April 2008. With an initial project investment of CNY300 million, the new base is designed to process 800 tons of raw milk daily and will achieve an annual output of CNY1.2 billion.
COFCO also said that Hongya Modern Pasture, the operation that provides dairy resources to the Mengniu Meishan plant, was completed at the same time as the manufacturing base. With an investment of CNY340 million, Hongya Modern Pasture is currently raising more than 5,000 cows that have been imported from Australia.
